Meet a comprehensive trainee
Kathy Adler, Comprehensive trainee - Belsize Studio (London)
What was your first experience of Pilates?
I started Pilates almost exactly four years ago, in the studio of David Katz at what was then Holmes Place, now Virgin Active, in Crouch End. I was hooked from the very first session - I'd done lots of other things before, but knew from that first moment that this was the thing for me. And that hasn't changed at all!
What is you pilates experience to date?
I've done a lot of matwork, many classes, with many different teachers, here, in the US and in South Africa, and I've always enjoyed them. But the studio is my first love...
I should say that I'll be 64 in October and so far it all seems to be going well!
What inspired you to train as a teacher?
I've worked as a teacher in a very different area all my life, so I soon had the idea that I would like to teach. But it wasn't possible until this year, for me to start my training.
What career did you have before you started training?
I am an art historian, and was for eleven years Director of Education at the National Gallery, London, before retiring at the end of October 2006.
What do you wish you had known about pilates before you started training?
I don't think there's been anything I wished I'd known before I started. I always knew the training would be challenging and stimulating, and that's what it's proved to be.
