CLASS FINDER
- Matwork class sizes vary but, a maximum of 12 clients per group is ideal.
- Matwork classes may also be taught on a 1:1 basis.
- In Matwork classes, exercises are mostly performed lying down on the mat, sometimes using small pieces of equipment.
- It's your body working against gravity that provides the biggest challenge.
- As there is no large Apparatus in Matwork classes, there is less support available, so in some ways Matwork classes can be more challenging.
- For certain medical conditions, Apparatus classes may be more suitable. Your Pilates teacher will be happy to advise.
- If you have an injury or medical condition, notify your teacher who can modify a particular exercise to make it more suitable for you. You must also let your teacher know if you are pregnant or have recently had a baby.
- Matwork classes are more widely available than Apparatus classes, as they don't require a dedicated space in which to teach them. They're usually taught in local halls, dance, fitness or health centres.
- The duration of the class is usually from 60-90 minutes.
