Emily has a lifelong love of dance and movement, having started dancing at the age of 3. Following several years working in arts management, Emily discovered a passion for teaching whilst volunteering teaching English on a community development project in Mexico. After a year and a half teaching, learning Spanish and finally having the time to rediscover how beneficial regular Pilates and yoga practise was to both her physical and mental well-being, Emily made the decision to return to England and retrain in order to combine this new-found desire to teach with both her passion for movement and her belief that a strong and healthy body promotes a strong and healthy mind.
Emily is accredited with the Pilates Foundation to teach all aspects of Pilates matwork, having completed a comprehensive matwork teacher training course at the Scott Studio under the supervision of master teacher Suzanne Scott. Emily is also trained in pre and postnatal Pilates and is First Aid qualified. As a member of the Pilates Foundation Emily is committed to furthering her education through continuing professional development.
In order to further her knowledge of bodywork and gain a deeper understanding of anatomy and physiology, Emily completed a BTEC Professional Diploma (Level 5) in Clinical Sports and Remedial Massage Therapy with the Institute of Sports and Remedial Massage in 2014. This knowledge informs her teaching on many levels, but in particular when working with injuries and health conditions.
Most recently, Emily qualified as a Vinyasa Yoga Teacher, completing a 200 hour Yoga Alliance Teacher Training in Mexico. This deepened her belief in the connection between the mind, body and breath, and the positive effects that yoga, and movement in general, can have on one’s life. The energy, balance and strength you create on your mat is carried over into your daily life - you become more centred, present, and both physically and mentally more healthy.
Emily has also studied structural, functional and experiential anatomy with Gary Carter on his year-long 'Anatomy & Movement' course. This explores the anatomy of movement in relation to practice, movement analysis, 3-D work, and experiential anatomy, allowing teachers to 'see' their students more clearly.
